Functional Public Art — Map Out Your Art Crawl
With this handy map (download below) you can enjoy a fun art crawl as you visit the 14 art benches that line The Woodlands Waterway.
The Woodlands Arts Council’s Art Bench Project is part of the vast assemblage of public art, one of the largest collections of public art in the country! These distinctive benches were underwritten by local organizations, individuals or families and were created by artists from all over the globe and selected after fierce competition. The colorful and unique designs of these functional art works pepper The Woodlands Waterway landscape all the way from The Woodlands Mall basin area to Waterway Square® to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Town Green Park and Riva Row Boat House.
The art bench titled Hail and Farewell Henry Moore by Conroe artist Bob Mosier is very popular with children. This piece is located in Town Green Park and features a carved wood structure that offers 4 resting seats. First, however, you must earn your rest spot by climbing up and into the art to find a place to sit. Nearby, you can visit the Bean and Amber art benches.

The Waterway Square District is host not only to incredible public art, but also offers residents and visitors a variety of restaurants, shops, entertainment venues, a hotel (The Westin) and outdoor green spaces. The plaza and waterfall area offer a welcoming outdoor environment where 3 art benches (Crete, Mipenipa and Light Balls Bench) sit near one another.Additionally, choreographed fountains featuring colored lighting and festive music are played during evening hours.
Five new art benches will be unveiled this fall and installed along Lake Woodlands in Hughes Landing. Be on the lookout for the new benches coming soon.
