2021 Rednews Commercial Real Estate Awards Honor HHC’s Most Significant Lease for Western Midstream and HHCares’ Best Covid Plan
The Howard Hughes Corporation has been named Developer of the Year and received prestigious awards for Most Significant Lease and for Best Covid Plan from the 2021 REDnews© Houston Real Estate Awards.
The Howard Hughes Corporation was recognized as Developer of the Year for the completion of three significant projects all within The Woodlands, recognized as the #1 Best Community to Live in America by Niche.com. A build-to-suit, four-story, Class A office building for Alight Solutions was successfully delivered by HHC in 312 days—from contract to delivery, including permits—on time and on budget during the pandemic. Also recognized was the spring 2020 opening in Hughes Landing® of the new eight-story multifamily development, Two Lakes Edge; and the December 2020 opening of the seven-story, urban multifamily community, The Lane at Waterway.
REDnews recognized Howard Hughes with the Best COVID Plan award for the company’s response to the pandemic through HHCares, its company-wide, integrated corporate social responsibility program.
Howard Hughes believes in giving back and positively impacting the lives of all who live, work, play and thrive in our communities, contributing to over 130 annual local causes to nonprofit organizations each year. During the pandemic, the HHCares team delivered donated meals to frontline medical workers and first responders; co-hosted an appreciation dinner for the Texas National Guard for their efforts with the Montgomery County Food Bank; and provided additional financial support to various nonprofit organizations whose work is critical to the strength of our communities. Howard Hughes also participated in the national “Light It Blue” campaign, displaying blue lights at night in key landmarks of The Woodlands, Bridgeland and The Woodlands Hills to show support and appreciation for the healthcare professionals and frontline teams, thanks for whom was displayed on a billboard in North Houston with the supportive words “Standing Strong Together.”
In the Transaction Awards category, the Most Significant Lease award went to Howard Hughes for the Western Midstream Partners, LP lease of 106,781 square feet on the top four floors of 9950 Woodloch Forest Drive, one of two premier Class AAA towers named The Woodlands Towers at The Waterway. Howard Hughes acquired the two towers totaling approximately 1.4 million square feet of office space from Occidental Petroleum in 2019.
“It is an honor to be recognized by REDnews as Developer of the Year,” said Jim Carman, President, Houston Region for The Howard Hughes Corporation. “These awards demonstrate the professional dedication of our team at Howard Hughes and our commitment to the regions in which we not only build but work, live and engage with our community as neighbors.”
The Howard Hughes Corporation was also recognized as a finalist for two Project Awards: Best Suburban Multifamily for two luxury multifamily developments in The Woodlands, and Two Lakes Edge in Hughes Landing® and The Lane at Waterway.
In addition to The Woodlands, The Howard Hughes Corporation is the developer of the award-winning master planned communities of The Woodlands Hills and Bridgeland—a 11,500-acre master planned community that is ranked one of the top-selling MPCs in Texas and #14 in the nation.
