Winners announced for The Woodlands Wildflower Festival Art Contest

Texas bluebonnets, sunflowers and an assortment of wildflowers were the themes of art pieces submitted for The Woodlands Wildflower Poster & Recycled Art Bag Contests. One thing for sure -- it was a fierce competition! The contests are held in conjunction with The Woodlands Wildflower Festival, set for Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Town Green Park.

Entries were judged and prizes awarded in the following categories:

Up to four years old:

Grace Kotalik won $100 in this category for her beautiful and colorful wildflower.  Budding artist here!

Five to eight years old:

Ella Butler captured first place and $100. Ella used bright colors to show the essence of her wildflowers.

Nine to 13 years old:

Gwendolyn Butler is the Grand Prize children’s winner and received $100. Her artwork, filled with vividly colored wildflowers in a field, will be featured on the recycled bag sold at the Festival, benefiting The Woodlands Lions Club.

14-18 years old:

Juhui Cheon created a realistic depiction of grandparents on a bridge, surrounded by wildflowers. Cheon won $100 in this teenage category.

Adults (age 19 and over)

Amy Elise Havern created a stunning mixed use art piece of children playing in a field of bluebonnets. Havern won $300, and her artwork will be featured on the traditional Wildflower Festival poster, sold at the event by The Woodlands Lions Club.

"We continue to be amazed by the wonderful entries we receive each year for the always popular Wildflower Festival art contests,” said Kim Phillips, Director of Marketing for The Woodlands Development Company. "This year, The Woodlands Development Company and sponsors are proud to offer residents and guests a variety of 25 free wildflower seeds along with numerous activities, music and booths.”

This free, family-oriented event features wildflower seeds in many different varieties, giant inflatable rides, exhibits related to gardening and native plants, food trucks, a petting zoo and live music. Lovable mascot of The Woodlands, Puffy Pine Cone®, along with mascot friends including Bridgeland Bill®, will make special guest appearances from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the festival. Bridgeland® is also an award-winning master planned community that is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Howard Hughes Corporation managed by The Woodlands Development Company.

The Woodlands Development Company is the host of The Woodlands Wildflower Festival. CHI St. Luke’s Health is the presenting sponsors. BrightView is a participating sponsor while The Woodlands Township is the park sponsor.
