The Woodlands to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 16

by The Woodlands

If you have never experienced the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration in The Woodlands, mark your calendar for Monday, Jan. 16 at noon. The tribute takes place at The Woodlands United Methodist Church.

Everyone is welcome to attend and people of all ages come together to join the festivities. The children’s and adults’ choirs are invigorating and make the celebration come alive.  The highlight of the Commemorative Celebration is the Drum Major Award in which an inspiring local resident is honored.

The theme this year is "Living the Dream.”  Pastor Rob Renfroe from The Woodlands United Methodist Church is the keynote speaker while Tom Abrahams, news anchor with KTRK-ABC Channel 13 Houston is the Master of Ceremonies.

The Celebration began 29 years ago in The Woodlands as a "dream” of Impact Church of The Woodlands (formerly St. Paul Church) and Chairperson Myrna Irons who has been a guiding light for this event since its inception.

Irons believes in this worthwhile tribute. "The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration is a community-wide event celebrating the life of Dr. King who selflessly performed daily acts of service to make our communities and our world a better place.”

The Woodlands Development Company is proud to once again be a sponsor. Lone Star College – Montgomery and Woodforest National Bank are also sponsoring this event.
