Holiday happenings in The Woodlands and Houston

Jingle bells are ringing, and holiday lights are shining as the community counts down to the "most wonderful time of the year.”  With school children out for the holidays and guests arriving at your home, you might be wondering how to entertain everyone. Here’s a list of the top fun events around The Woodlands and Houston:

1.     The Ice Rink at The Woodlands Town Center is open daily (even on holidays) through Jan. 16, 2017 at its new 21,000-square-foot permanent location at Lake Robbins Drive and Six Pines Drive.

2.     Breakfast with Santa is set for Friday, Dec. 23 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Rob Fleming Park in The Woodlands’ Village of Creekside Park.  Enjoy a continental breakfast, family crafts, music and Santa Claus. Preregistration is required.

3.     Live Airing of Football will take place at The Woodlands Waterway Square® and the Ice Rink at Town Center. Games include: Dec. 27, Army vs. North Texas (Heart of Dallas Bowl) and Boise State vs. Baylor (Cactus Bowl); Dec. 30, Georgia vs. TCU (Liberty Bowl); Dec. 31, Washington vs. Alabama (Peach Bowl) and Ohio State vs. Clemson (Fiesta Bowl). You can watch the games for free. Regular admission is charged for skating.

4.     Lakes Edge Boat House is open at Hughes Landing and offers single and tandem kayak rentals on Lake Woodlands.  The Boat House is closed on Christmas Eve/Day and has limited hours on New Year’s Eve/Day.  Riva Row Boat House is also open.

5.    Restaurant Row at Hughes Landing offers a variety of restaurants including The Blue Fish, California Pizza Kitchen, Del Frisco’s Grille, Escalantes Tex-Mex & Tequila, Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse, Local Pour and Truluck’s. Enjoy other retailers too while looking at lights, sculptures and a Christmas tree.    

6.     Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo boasts more than two million lights, holiday carols and hot chocolate. The holiday light displays transform the zoo into a Winter Wonderland through January 15.

7.     A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is being performed at the Alley Theatre through Dec. 29.  Tickets may be purchased online.

8.     The Nutcracker is presented by the Houston Ballet through Tuesday, Dec. 27. Tickets are available online for this favorite at the Brown Theatre at Wortham Center in Houston.

 9.    The 15thAnnual Festival of Lights features over 1 million lights, nightly entertainment and an ice skating rink at Moody Gardens in Galveston. The Festival of Lights runs through Jan. 8, 2017. 

 10.  Santa’s Wonderland, located in College Station, features lights, hayride tours, entertainment, shopping, Santa and more through Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.
