Enjoy George Mitchell Nature Preserve on National Public Lands Day

Saturday, September 30 is National Public Lands Day. Many national parks and public lands are fee-free to hike and explore during this day. In The Woodlands, the George Mitchell Nature Preserve is fee-free every day.  Here are five fun facts to know about this award-winning Preserve.

  • Opened in October 2007, the George Mitchell Nature Preserve is named after founder of The Woodlands, George Mitchell.
  • The George Mitchell Nature Preserve features 1,700 acres along Spring Creek, situated in the Villages of Creekside Park and Indian Springs.
  •  The George Mitchell Nature Preserve is part of the Spring Creek Greenway Project which includes nearly 40 miles of linear trails along Spring Creek.
  • Visitors can enjoy hiking, biking on natural-surface trails and canoeing on Spring Creek. 
  • The George Mitchell Nature Preserve received the Corporate Conservation Leadership Award from the Nature Conservancy of Texas for its sensitivity to the environment in the overall development of The Woodlands’ community in 2008.
